[If you loved the look I did for my masquerade, this video is for you! I go through step by step how I achieved that fabulous turquoise smokey eye. Make sure you go to College Candy for the video!]
Well that is the question.
You always hear beauty experts say, “Don’t match your makeup to your outfit.” I disagree. I think as long as you don’t look like one of Rainbow Brite’s sprites threw up all over you, then go for it. What’s wrong with a little coordination?
This weekend, I had a masquerade cocktail party which was the perfect excuse to wearreally over-the-top eye makeup. My mask wasn’t all too exciting: black, white, and silver. My dress was black, my shoes were black. Yawn.
So I found these fun and sparkly turquoise earrings and decided to match my makeup and nail polish to them for some pops of color. It was perfectly OK because it wasn’t a total head-to-toe, matchy matchy look. And everyone loved it! The key is to not match your makeup to everything on your person. But matching to one or two accessories or using an outfit color for inspiration is not only an acceptable way to go, but the way to go.
So let’s get down to business, shall we? In this week’s video, I’ll be showing you how to do an fierce turquoise smokey eye.
Tonight I’m off to a Masquerade party for my sorority! I’m really excited because ever since I saw Phantom of the Opera for the first time (the play, then the movie), I wanted to go to a Masquerade ball. This isn’t really a ball, but it’s close enough. If you haven’t seen POTO, then do it. It’s not touring anymore so you’ll have to settle for Gerard Butler as the Phantom, sorry.
Anyway, I decided to amp it up because my mask is black, white, and silver and my dress is black. It’s boring. I found these fantastic earrings and thought why not match my makeup to my accessories? ”They” always say not to match your makeup to stuff, but I say do it. As long as you’re not matching it to everything. So I have these turquoise earrings, turquoise nail polish, and an awesome turquoise+black smokey eye to go with it.
Here’s what I used:
1. Urban Decay Primer Potion
2. MAC Mineralize Eyeshadow My Dark Magic: outer 1/3
3. Kat Von D Groupie Eyeshadow: browbone & blending
4. Various colors from an NYX Box of Eye Shadows (112 colors!!): middle 1/3, inner 1/3, lower lash line
5. Diorshow Blackout Mascara
I’ll review this box soon!
So if you haven’t heard by now, I am in the latest issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine on page 36! I did an advertorial for Olay on three of their skincare products, and I’m going to be doing a more in depth review right here on CC Beauty Live! I don’t usually have a ton of success with drug store brand skin care lines, but Olay has definitely made me a believer. I loved the products they sent me, and I hope you do too!
Olay sent me their Pore Minimizing Cleanser & Scrub’s 2-in-1 Foaming Formula, the Daily Facials Deep Cleansing Dual-Textured Cloths, and the Shine Control Lathering Cleanser. All of the products are gentle enough to use every day, although you can use their Lathering Cleanser as more of a mask every few days. I even ran out of the cleansing cloths because I used them so often!
I really enjoyed this stuff (almost as I enjoyed seeing my face in my favorite magazine!), so go to College Candy to watch the video!
I’m not the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day, but any excuse to do fun makeup for a holiday makes me a happy camper. I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup when I’m going to class so I feel a little silly. Maybe I have a hot date after class, don’t judge me.
What I used:
1. Urban Decay Potion Primer: base!
2. Urban Decay Gunmetal Pigment: outer 1/3
3. Urban Decay Scratch: middle 1/3
4. Urban Decay Sting: inner 1/3
5. MUFE Diamond Shadow in White: used to blend and highlight brow bone
I didn’t realize I used nearly all UD products until I typed it out. If you don’t have any UD stuff, go check it out. Their eyeshadows are like velvet on your peepers. It’s always popping up on HauteLook (there was a everything $2.00 sale once!) so if you want to stalk it and try to get some on sale, here’s your invite!
Tonight I’m having dinner cooked for me (aww) and playing with this puppy, Nova.
